First, I switch to the UI directory of the AI Toolkit:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>cd ui<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">If you haven&#8217;t cloned the AI Toolkit repository yet, you need to do that first. The UI directory should be located in the root directory of the AI Toolkit repository.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">Now I start the build and start process:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>npm run build_and_start<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">This command performs two steps: First, all Node.js dependencies are installed and the UI is compiled (<code>build<\/code>), then the server is started (<code>start<\/code>). The process can take a few minutes, especially the first time, as all dependencies must be downloaded.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">During the build process, you will see many outputs in the terminal. This is normal. If errors occur, check the error messages \u2013 often they are due to missing dependencies or network problems.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">After a successful start, you will see a message that looks something like this:<\/p>\n<pre data-path-to-node=\"27\"><code data-path-to-node=\"27\">Server running on http:\/\/0.0.0.0:8675\r\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">The web UI is now accessible! If the UI does not start or errors occur, check if the environment is activated.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"24\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Phase_9_Starting_the_First_Training_Job\"><\/span>Phase 9: Starting the First Training Job<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A very good introduction to training with the AI Toolkit is provided by Ostris&#8217;s YouTube channel, with posts on different models and how you can train your own LoRA with the AI Toolkit, for example: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@ostrisai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI Toolkit on YouTube<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">After the web UI has been successfully started, you can configure your first training job. The web interface offers various options for configuration:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"26\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"26,0,0\">Model selection and configuration<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"26,1,0\">Dataset management<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"26,2,0\">Training parameters (Learning Rate, Batch Size, etc.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"26,3,0\">Extended configurations via the Advanced Config<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">Configure your training job in the web UI and start it. You can track progress directly in the UI. Here are the most common ones and how I solved them:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"54\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;Command not found&#8221; with conda commands:<\/b> Miniconda is not in the PATH or the bash session was not restarted. Run <code>source ~\/.bashrc<\/code> or open a new terminal window.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,0,1\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,0,1\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Conda environment is not activating:<\/b> Check if the environment exists with <code>conda env list<\/code>. If not, recreate it with <code>conda create --name ai-toolkit python=3.11<\/code>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">PyTorch CUDA support not available:<\/b> Check with <code>python -c \"import torch; print(torch.cuda.is_available())\"<\/code>. If False, check the CUDA drivers with <code>nvidia-smi<\/code> and ensure the correct PyTorch version was installed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">npm command not found:<\/b> npm was not installed. Install it with <code>sudo apt install npm<\/code> or ensure that Node.js was correctly installed and is in the PATH.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,3,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">UI does not start or shows errors:<\/b> Check if the Conda environment is activated. The UI must be started within the activated environment. Also check the logs in the terminal for detailed error messages.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,4,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,4,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Training job does not start or crashes:<\/b> Training normally runs via a Python script. If the UI shows no output, you can start the training directly via the command line. To do this, copy the configuration from the Advanced Config into a YAML file and run: <code>python run.py path\/to\/train.yaml<\/code> (with the Conda environment activated).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,5,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,5,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Access to the UI from the network does not work:<\/b> Check the firewall settings and ensure that port 8675 is open. Also check if both computers are on the same network.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"54,6,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"54,6,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Node.js version not compatible:<\/b> Ensure you are using an ARM64 version of Node.js. The x86_64 version does not work on the AI TOP ATOM.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"56\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Starting_Training_Directly_via_the_Command_Line\"><\/span>Starting Training Directly via the Command Line<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"57\">If you have problems with the web UI or want to start the training directly via the command line, you can copy the configuration from the Advanced Config of the web UI and save it in a YAML file. Then start the training with:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"57\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>python run.py path\/to\/train.yaml<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"57\">Important: The Conda environment <code>ai-toolkit<\/code> must be activated before you run this command. The training then runs directly in the terminal, and you will see all output in real time.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"57\">This method is particularly useful for debugging as you can see all error messages directly.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"56\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reactivating_the_Conda_Environment_After_a_Restart\"><\/span>Reactivating the Conda Environment After a Restart<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">After a system restart, you must reactivate the Conda environment before starting the UI:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>conda activate ai-toolkit<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">If you want to start the UI automatically at system startup, you can create a systemd service or add a startup script to <code>~\/.bashrc<\/code>. Make sure the Conda environment is activated before the UI is started.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"56\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Rollback_Removing_the_AI_Toolkit_Again\"><\/span>Rollback: Removing the AI Toolkit Again<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">If you want to completely remove the AI Toolkit from the AI TOP ATOM, run the following commands on the system:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">First, stop the UI (if it&#8217;s running) with <code>Ctrl+C<\/code> in the terminal where it was started.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">Remove the Conda environment:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>conda deactivate<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>conda env remove --name ai-toolkit<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">If you also want to remove Miniconda:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>rm -rf ~\/miniconda3<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">Remove the Miniconda entries from the <code>~\/.bashrc<\/code> file, if present.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">If you want to remove Node.js:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>sudo rm -rf \/opt\/node-v24.11.1-linux-arm64<\/code><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">Remove the Node.js entries from the <code>~\/.bashrc<\/code> file.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\">If npm was installed via apt:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"60\"><strong>Command:<\/strong> <code>sudo apt remove npm<\/code><\/p>\n<blockquote data-path-to-node=\"62\">\n<p data-path-to-node=\"62,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"62,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Important Note:<\/b> These commands remove all training data, models, and configurations stored in the Conda environment. Make sure you really want to remove everything before running these commands. Training checkpoints and models cannot be easily restored.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"64\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summary_Conclusion\"><\/span>Summary &amp; Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"65\">The installation of the AI Toolkit on the Gigabyte AI TOP ATOM is surprisingly straightforward thanks to compatibility with the NVIDIA DGX <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ostris\/ai-toolkit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">instructions<\/a>. In about 30-45 minutes, I have set up the AI Toolkit and can now train my own models via the user-friendly web interface.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"66\">What particularly excites me: The Conda environment allows for a clean isolation from the system Python installation, and the web UI makes configuring and starting training jobs significantly easier than via the command line. The performance of the Blackwell GPU is fully utilized, and I can also start and monitor training jobs from other computers on the network.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"67\">I also find it particularly practical that the web UI offers an Advanced Config, which makes it possible to create complex configurations and export them directly as YAML files. This makes it easy to reproduce or share training jobs.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"68\">For teams or developers who want to train their own AI models, this is a perfect solution: A central server with full GPU power, on which training jobs can be started and monitored via an intuitive web interface. The Conda environment ensures that everything is cleanly isolated and can be easily removed.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"69\">If you have questions or encounter problems, feel free to look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.nvidia.com\/dgx\/dgx-spark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official NVIDIA DGX Spark documentation<\/a> or the documentation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ostris\/ai-toolkit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI Toolkit<\/a> by Ostris.
